When Phoebe says her goodbyes to the triplets

“Can I tell you a little secret?”

“Yeah”

“I want to keep one”

While people put the proposal scene of Mondler, and the iconic prom video at the top of their favourite FRIENDS moments, Phoebe giving away the triplets has always been the closest one to my heart.

The moment she carries all three of them in her arms and begins to talk, my heart melts and my eyes tear up to see her give them away. We all knew it would have been a hundred times harder for phoebe to give up the triplets but when the minute arrived, it felt terrible to watch her give something away she had embraced for 9 long months. Phoebe out of everyone in the group has always been the kindest, her love for trees, animals, the hatred for pottery barn, has always portrayed her as a thoughtful one and somehow her taking this decision didn’t come out as a big surprise for all of us, even when she had met Frank only a couple of times.

When she asks Rachel to find out if Frank wants to give her one of the babies, it was completely understandable but saddening to realize the probability of it happening, she was attached to them and imagined the moment when each one of them would enter the world. For a minute, I wanted Frank to consider giving her one of them but then it’s his and Alice’s children and it would put him in a really tough position. I was worried about Pheebs but there she was, amidst the Fonzie fandom and drama, selflessly giving birth to her brother’s children, gently handling them to him, and promising herself to be the best aunt ever.

People told her surrogacy would be difficult, that labour would hurt her but none of it mattered when she held them in her hands. All of it was worth it. This one episode, I can never unlove no matter how many times I watch it. She gave Frank and Alice their dream and lifelong happiness without asking for anything in return, managing to remain strong like she’s always been. Well… that’s Phoebe Buffay for all of us.

And guys, CHANDLER IS A GIRL!
