May 27th , the FRIENDS Reunion || Priyansha Khadka || The British College

To some, it was just another usual day, except for hundreds of their followers putting up stories about FRIENDS reunion. For us being one of those people, it was a journey, a concoction of happiness, laughter, and tears. To us, it wasn’t just 6 friends reuniting and getting the same feeling once again but the millions of people reliving those moments with them, holding tears from glistening eyes, a little heavy heart, and a smile on their faces.

The second David stepped into the set and saw the best 10 years in front of his eyes, we knew the next 104 minutes was going to be super hard and maybe it was why I locked my door and took out a box of tissue paper, preparing myself for this ride.

All six of them sitting in Monica’s room recreating the scenes, watching the old clips and blooper, Lisa’s magical laughter, Courtney being absolute Monica and asking David to start the game again, Matt looking at his arm get hurt and making a painful face, Jennifer being Rachel and confusing ‘The one where no one gets ready’ episode and still announcing it confidently, Matthew being sarcastic at that moment like Chandler always is and David being honest about Jen and him crushing on each other with maybe a little ‘what if things were different’ thought in his head. The coffee house kiss wasn’t between Ross and Rachel but between David and Jen.

The show didn’t receive all this love for just these 6 characters, but those hundreds of live audience supporting them with every scene and joke. The portrayal of complicated relationships, surrogacy, adoption, love triangles, breaking the stereotype of men proposing to women, it was all the little things that made it this lovable. It was the life each and every actor gave to their characters which makes it an incredible show. The ending was beautiful, especially the part where they say “cut” but Jen and David still don’t let go of each other. We wanted to hold on to this moment just like them.

As I end this piece respecting people’s opinion on calling it an overrated show, I hope they equally respect my attachment with it. For me and millions of people out there, FRIENDS will always remain special.
